Popular British Supermarket chain, The Co-op has created a brand new ‘gender-neutral’ ‘gingerbread person’. Remember, that’s ‘person’ and not ‘man’!, we feel it’s important to stress that as it’s the whole point of Co-Op’s latest campaign. This is a brand new take on the iconic human biscuit and it is saying goodbye to it being purely a ‘man’. It is understood that the supermarket has not decided upon a name for the gender neutral biscuit as yet, and is holding a competition to give ‘it’ a brand new name.
The supermarket is currently putting the finishing touches to this new ‘person’ and wondering what the name should be, so they thought they would ask the general public for some help!
It has been revealed that some parents across the country and indeed worldwide, are now raising their children as ‘theybies’ so that when (an often debated) age arrives, they can decide for themselves whether they are a boy or a girl. There has been a great deal of stigma attached to gender neutralism and people that identify as trans gender, are more likely to have poor mental health studies reveal.
Gingerbread ‘men’ are actually an English invention with the first noted human shaped biscuits made of ginger bread arriving in the 15th century in the court of Elizabeth 1st.
It is popular to have different shaped ginger bread men throughout the year with the most notable times of year being Halloween, Christmas and Easter in which themed Gingerbread men are produced. This new ‘gender neutral’ gingerbread person will be no exception to that as we understand that the same rules will apply.
The Gingerbread man is also famous for featuring in the classic children’s story (of the same name) about a cheeky biscuit that jumps out of the oven and runs away. The story ends in tears somewhat controversially by 2019 standards as the little fella is eaten by a fox!
The Co-op is one of the oldest and most traditional British supermarkets and is originally from Rochdale and founded in 1844. It is now one of the largest UK mutual businesses owned by millions of UK consumers according to the official website.
