BARBARA WINDSOR NOW UNDER 24-HOUR CARE

The husband of Legendary British actress, Dame Barbara Windsor, has given a new update on the stars health as she battles out Alzheimer’s disease. Speaking to the BBC radio 2 show,

Scott Mitchell said: “There’s good and bad days” he stated. “The confusion does progress and that becomes a lot more stressful for her to live with as you as the cater to watch”

He then added: “it gets worse at night with Barbara it’s to do with our house.” As he reveals that the star struggles to remember that they are in the house and even asked sometimes if the clothes that are in the house actually belong to them.

Unfortunately for Barbara, Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease so that means that over time there are more and more parts of the brain that are damaged and as this happens, symptoms gets more severe and more noticeable as they get worse.

Dementia is not uncommon in the UK, as of 2019 it has been reported that there are over half a million people living with this sad and tragic condition. The approximate number is 520,000 of sufferers.

Back in January, Barbara’s husband Scott Mitchell, revealed that sometimes Legendary British actress would ask him who he is. It is such a sad story as Barbara Windsor is undoubtably one of the most famous, iconic and lovable actresses the UK has ever produced, and is widely regarded as a national treasure.

However, it is not always the case that the store does not recognise her husband As there are still times when she has her old normal, bubbly self. Just last week, the EastEnders legend was joined by her husband as they went to watch the Only Fools and Horses musical show in the West End. At the end of the show she went to meet all of the stars that headline the new musical and was said to have had a great time watching the show.

Babs in her younger days.

During a recent interview on ‘Good Morning Britain’, her husband Scott said that “something happens to Barbara when she’s out, and it’s like her old self comes in”

He also reviewed on the Loose Women show that they still “watch telly and have a giggle”. Scott will be running the London Marathon for Dementia Revolution this year as he attempts to raise £100,000 that will go towards research into this sad and tragic disease that affects so many people.

Barbara, who is 81 years old, is now under 24-hour care. She first rose to fame in the U.K. in the initial series of ‘Carry On’ movies such as Carry On Spying, Carry On Doctor, Carry On Camping,  Carry On Matron and many others. She has also starred in Eastenders as ‘Peggy Mitchell’, mother of the ‘Mitchell brothers’ and stern faced owner of the Queen Victoria pub. She joined EastEnders way back in 1994 after the policy of the show was relaxed to allow big-name actors to have major roles in the show (previously only Wendy Richard was the exception). She appeared in hundreds of episodes and eventually the character was killed off in 2016. Aside from EastEnders, she also appeared in many movies that were on the big screen such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Comrades, It Couldn’t Happen Here, The Boy Friend, Not Now Darling And perhaps most famously Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass directed of course by the wonderful Tim Burton.

Whilst it’s undoubtedly sad that Barbara Windsor has this tragic condition, it must be said that her career is enviable to even some of the biggest stars. She has had a long and fruitful career being part of some amazing and iconic pieces of British entertainment. She is widely regarded as a national treasure and for that, she will always have a place in the nations hearts.
