The legendary baked potato chain, Spudulike, has collapsed leaving 298 staff redundant it was announced today. The brand has been around since 1974!
Administrators have confirmed in a statement made today (5 August) that all 37 of the Spudulike outlets across the country were shut on Friday after an attempt to rescue the ailing chain from administration has failed. It does indeed show a state of the times following an awful period for the sector which has been fighting weaker consumer demand at a time of higher costs on wages and supplies.
Administrator Neil Bennett, from the business services firm Leonard Curtis, said: “We are very disappointed with the outcome after working for several weeks firstly preparing a CVA proposal, which was rejected by the group’s creditors, and subsequently pursuing the sale of all or part of the group’s business and assets with a number of prospective purchasers.”
Thef famous banked potato chain was founded in 1974 and went on to become hugely popular in the 80’s and 90’s especially, it will be sorely missed by many members of the public who frequently dined on their beans and cheese bakes.
Neil Bennett of Leonard Curtis said: “Sadly, a sale of the business and assets of the group on a going-concern basis did not prove possible following the last-minute withdrawal of an offer that was close to completion.”
