Police officer injures face severely in Bristol

A police officer in Bristol has sustained severe facial injuries when he was attempting to detain a suspect.

When Police Officers approached a vehicle that was suspicious in Kensington Road, Staple Hill, 3 men in the car got out and ran off with one officer chasing a man along a footpath off Acacia Road. When he attempted to detain him, he was injured.

A force spokesman said the officer will unfortunately require facial surgery. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

A 37-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs. Police also stated that a quantity of suspected Class A drugs and other items including cash and mobile phones have been recovered from the scene. A cordon remains in place around the footpath at this time.
