In the ongoing search for Madeline Kingsbury, a Minnesota mother who went missing, significant developments have emerged.
The father of her two children, Adam Fravel, aged 29, has been apprehended and charged with second-degree murder by the Winona County Detention Center.
Police uncovered human remains along a highway in Mabel, utilizing information obtained during the investigation into Madeline Kingsbury’s disappearance.
As a result of these developments, law enforcement has taken Adam Fravel into custody based on probable cause in relation to Madeline Kingsbury’s disappearance.
The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is diligently working to positively identify the recovered remains.
Madeline Kingsbury, 26, has been missing for nearly two months, and these charges mark the first significant progress in the case.
Following the disappearance of the beloved 26-year-old mother, Madeline Kingsbury, on March 31, a frantic search was initiated after she dropped her children off at day care. Last month, retired special prosecutor Phil Prokopowicz was enlisted to investigate her case, as confirmed by Kingsbury’s sister. Prokopowicz, renowned for his expertise in the field, has been providing assistance to Winona County law enforcement.
At present, specific details regarding his investigation are scarce, as the immediate focus is on an ongoing custody trial, according to Megan Kingsbury’s statement to KTTC. Prokopowicz retired from the Dakota County law enforcement agency in 2019, and his involvement coincided with the contentious custody battle between Kingsbury’s family and Adam Fravel, the father of the children. Currently, the children are residing with Kingsbury’s father, and a custody hearing is scheduled in Winona County for June 6. The impact of Fravel’s arrest on the ongoing case remains uncertain.
Fravel, the last person known to have seen Madeline Kingsbury alive on the morning of March 31, released a statement in April, asserting his innocence through his attorney. In his statement, he expressed the emotional toll his family had endured over the past 12 days amidst the accusations surrounding Kingsbury’s disappearance.
Over the past 12 days, I have been fully cooperative with law enforcement, participating in multiple interviews with Winona County authorities. I want to emphasize that I had no involvement in Maddi’s disappearance. My utmost desire is for the safe return of the mother of my two children, aged five and two.
Due to safety concerns, law enforcement advised me against attending press conferences or assisting in search efforts. Regrettably, my absence and silence have been misinterpreted by many, wrongly implying apathy or worse.
I want to clarify that nothing could be further from the truth. I am earnestly longing for Maddi’s safe homecoming and for her to be reunited with our children. May the Kingsbury family be blessed, and may Maddi be brought back safely.
In response to the situation, the Kingsbury family released a statement expressing their profound sense of unpreparedness.
“Nothing in life prepares you for this. The disappearance of our daughter and sister has been an ongoing nightmare, devoid of relief,” they expressed.
“In the days and nights since Madeline vanished, both the immediate and extended family have individually and collectively endured emotions and challenges that are unimaginable for anyone who has not been abruptly thrust into this harrowing situation.”
The family opened up about the emotional toll they have been enduring since their loved one’s disappearance.
“Eating has become a mechanical act, something we force ourselves to do to maintain our strength as we persistently advocate and search for Madeline,” the statement conveyed.
Sleep, if it comes at all, is restless and fleeting. It feels like the only thing comparable to what we are going through is the relentless stress of combat, day after dreadful day.
Initially, we were overwhelmed to the point where we couldn’t bear to look at each other, yet couldn’t bear to look away.
There were no words that could bring solace, and we felt isolated and frantic. But as time passed, the family rallied together, gathering from near and far. Our mission is to find Madeline, and we will not waver in our resolve.
The family expressed the added difficulties of being thrust into the national spotlight during such a traumatic time, compounded by the scarcity of information about Kingsbury’s whereabouts.
“Our family members and close friends closely coordinate with law enforcement, organizing search teams day after day, without fail,” they shared in the statement.
As needed, we utilize social media to provide encouragement and updates to the large groups of volunteers who are assisting us in the search for Madeline.
We are profoundly moved and overwhelmed by the unwavering dedication and tangible outpouring of love from the vast network of supporters she unknowingly gathered around her—her sorority sisters, colleagues at Mayo Clinic and other workplaces, fellow students from her time at Winona State, other mothers, and countless friends, acquaintances, and individuals whose lives she has touched.
The family made a solemn vow to persist in their search for Kingsbury until she is found.
“We will persevere in our search for Madeline. We refuse to give up, and as a family, we will emerge from this experience forever changed, yet forever grateful for the unwavering commitment of numerous helpers—friends, relatives, law enforcement personnel, first responders, social workers, case workers, legal professionals, child advocates, and countless others,” they expressed.
Madeline’s brother, who serves as an Army Infantryman, returned from his overseas service to contribute to the search efforts.
“It’s difficult to fathom how we could ever repay the immense volunteer effort,” Stephen Kingsbury shared.
“Our appreciation for everyone involved in our collective endeavors to bring our sister, daughter, and mother back home will eternally endure,” he added.
