The incident happened on Sunday night shortly after midnight. Danny Drinkwater has played for England three times and is a former Leicester City player. He is also a product of the famous Manchester United youth Academy which spawned such players as David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Gary and Philip Neville And more recently Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.
Since joining Chelsea for a fee estimated to be around £35 million, he has been dubbed the ‘forgotten man’ of the Premier League after failing to appear many games at all under the current manager at Chelsea Maurizio Sarri. It is widely expected that he may leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the 2018/19 season and head to another Premier League club. Current England manager, Gareth Southgate, has also failed to call up Drinkwater to the national squad of late.
At the age of 28, Danny Drinkwater should be in the prime of his career earning and £90,000 a week salary at one of the U.K.’s biggest football clubs, this latest blow will be the exclamation mark on an awful season he is having so far. To put it into perspective, he is costing the club £8 million per game as it stands right now. It will be very interesting to see, come the end of the season who Danny Drinkwater ends up going to, it is on likely to be one of the top four or five clubs in the premiership such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, or Tottenham Hotspur.
In a police statement, Cheshire police said “A 29-year-old from Nether Alderley has been charged with drink-driving following an incident in Cheshire, he has been released on unconditional bail and is set to appear at Stockport magistrates court on Monday 13th May.”
