An oil tanker that is reportedly clad in the Union Flag has been seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Gulf according to multiple reports online.
It is understood that The Foreign Office is currently “urgently” looking into the reports
The owners of ship, which was bound for Saudi Arabia, say they are unable to contact the vessel. There are 23 personnel on board.
These shocking developments come at a time that tensions between the UK and Iran are at a peak.
Owners of the vessel, Stena Bulk, and ship manager Northern Marine Management confirmed the UK-registered Stena Impero was approached at around 16:00 BST on Friday while it was in international waters.
A statement from them has said: “We are presently unable to contact the vessel which is now heading north towards Iran.
“There have been no reported injuries and their safety is of primary concern to both owners and managers.”
Im addition, a Foreign Office statement said: “We are urgently seeking further information and assessing the situation following reports of an incident in the Gulf.”
