In what would once have seemed an unlikely partnership, ITV and the BBC have now signed an agreement to launch a new streaming service called ‘BritBox’ in the UK this year.
It has been announced that BritBox will be priced at £5.99 per month, offering HD streaming for multiple devices, which undercuts the Netflix £7.99 price not surprisingly. It will air ITV and BBC shows.
It will feature a vast array of exclusive original content aimed that will showcase the best of British on demand content and will. R ad-free. The first brand new tv show is expected to be commissioned very soon and should be available to BritBox viewers from 2020 onwards it has been said.
Both new and old shows belonging to BBC and ITV will be available on the service and according to reports, BritBox will hold the largest collection of British boxsets ever in one place! It could be a game-changer.
BritBox has already launched in the US and Canada and according to ITV CEO Carolyn McCall is already “exceeding its targets”.
She added: “I am really excited about the new shows it will commission. With a remit to be daring and different, many future classics will be commissioned and live on BritBox for the future. These are exciting times for people who love quality TV. Importantly, these shows will be truly British, showcasing our culture and telling distinctive stories,” she said.
