Reports have suggested that Arsenal have received a £62M bid for their star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from rivals Manchester United.
This news will come to a shock for some Arsenal fans who will no doubt remember when Robin Van Persie made a surprise switch to United back in 2012. Whilst reports are unconfirmed, United have been a long time admirer of Aubameyang since his days at Bourussia Dortmund, and with his prolific form last season, he would be top of most Premier League clubs wish-list.
United are looking for a replacement striker for Romelu Lukaku after he has been tipped to join Inter Milan after disagreeing with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the number of first-team starts he will get in the forthcoming season.
It has also been reported in the Express that United are considering putting a bid in for Juventus star Paulo Dybala. They have said that Dybala would cost in excess of £72 Million should United be tempted to place a bid.
Manchester United will definitely need to replace Lukaku with another striker as his exit from the club seems highly likely. He has not been selected to play against Inter Milan in this Saturday’s friendly match in Singapore. When asked if Lukaku would play, Solskjaer replied: “No, he’s not fit, so he won’t be available” When presses for more info he simply said “I don’t have any updates from the last time I spoke to you”
St George’s Day Opinion:
It’s highly unlikely that Manchester United will secure Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal (and their fans) hold him in very high regard and they will desperately cling on to him for another season. He netted 32 goals last season and £62 million also seems like a tad on the low side when you consider that United are reportedly willing to pay £80 million for Harry Maguire. Dybala seems like a more realistic possibility but only time will tell.
